9 Things We Have Been Learning... Part 2

Continued from a previous post... here are 4 more things we have learned as we prepare to move our family to Haiti for a year.

6. Moving to Haiti is our new reality, but it still seems to blow the minds of most people. Seriously, we feel like this is just the next step for us. And we have reconciled the fact that we are moving to Haiti. But, I forget that this can be a bit "crazy" for some people. This is our new "normal". This is some peoples "crazy". Huh.

7. Gratitude. We have a lot to be grateful for. Support from family, friends, and even strangers. Good health, good jobs, good friends, nice houses (here and in Haiti), money, healthcare, the ability to read, write, walk, talk, etc. The list could go on and on... I am usually aware of most of the things I can feel thankful for but with this new chapter of our lives I have become even more aware. The outpouring of support from people has been overwhelming and humbling. With fundraising we have come to learn that we are just as grateful for $10 as we are for $1000. We mustn't judge who is truly generous.

8. The pressures on a family and marriage are enormous when you are moving your family to an underdeveloped country. Don’t do it unless you and your spouse are 100% committed together. And even then, don’t do it just because you are committed…be sure God has called you to it. Seriously, we run pretty hard here at the Elliott house in general but this is a whole new level!

9. The blessings of this process move us to tears…often
