Today is Sunday, our "off" day. Woke up at 4:30am to singing. Today was the 2 year anniversary of the church here on campus. It was a big deal. In fact, about 50 people were bused in from the parent church for the worship service. Apparently they couldn't hold back and needed to bust out some worship at 4:30am. Thats cool, sort of. I mean, I am all for worshipping God. But I am also all for sleep. We laid in bed for a bit then got up and herded the girls off to the restroom, got everyone dressed, and headed to breakfast in the cafeteria. I'm not a morning person and it is a bit rough engaging so early in the morning. Right when I wake up, nature calls, and I have to head off to the bathroom which involves running into multiple people on the way. I love people.... after 8am.
Then we went to church, which starts at 9ish (those of y0u who have been to Haiti or Guatemala understand the "ish" part). It lasted until 1:30. At 10:30 I left church to start on lunch. On Sundays we eat a large lunch and small dinner. We have 90 people on campus right now so it won't all fit in the oven. So I started the peanut butter cookies. Then we made stuffing, hot dogs, and baked beans... for 90 people.
Making chicken one night for dinner
Andrea, Louna, and Jolina working hard!
At 1:30 we ate, then cleaned up. Then I headed off at 3pm to work on the school lesson plans for this week. Then at 4:30 I headed back to the kitchen to start on dinner. Chicken noodle soup, cornbread, leftover spagetti. Finished cleaning up dinner then it was time for Malaria Sunday... not my favorite time. I have to compound Syd's and Sitota's which takes awhile. Trying to get kids to down malaria meds that taste like... well...something really nasty, isn't easy. In fact Sitota spit most of his out. But I really don't really know how much went down and don't want to re-dose due to cardiotoxicity so pray he doesn't get malaria this week :)
Then its time to get pj's on, track back over to the bathroom, and brush teeth. A quick bedtime story and the kids are in bed. Then off to the office to work on email and a blog post.
So that's a Sunday. Monday-Friday are homeschool in the morning, lunch, emails and team work in the afternoons, dinner prep/clean-up, then kids' bed times. Nothing too exciting. I am hoping to start working out tomorrow... we will see how that goes!
Two of the Elliotts are on the injured reserve right now. Syd has a urinary tract infection (we think) and Aaron pulled a hamstring pretending to be 20 and playing soccer. Other than that all is well. We have enjoyed the week with the teams on campus. They have been two great teams and a lot has been done around here with them around.
Oh dear, I hope Syd and Sitota will be okay. As for Aaron, well boys will be boys. ;) Sounds like a busy life. Not sure if you know the Colts lost and so did the Chiefs.
ReplyDeleteCooking for 90! I'm impressed. Are you available for the Frontline dinner next January? We always need a caterer...the problem is we don't have any ovens so you'll need to figure out how to use a grill to serve the entire meal. Thanks for sharing! Miss you guys!
ReplyDeleteWatching the singing brought a smile to my face - so much joy in their music. Thanks for sharing your life with us and hope all recover quickly from their illnesses/injuries.
