Beading Project Update

I wrote a post awhile back about the beading project that we have here at NVM and wanted to follow with a little update. Haitian ladies from the village of Chambrun have learned to make necklaces, bracelets, and earrings out of recycled cardboard and paper which are then sold in our little souvenir shop to visiting American teams. All the profits are split between the ladies who made each item, replenishing supplies as needed, and put into a scholarship fund for kids from our school. The project has taken off and they now meet weekly to work on the necklaces (below they are applying a coat of varnish to the beads) and attend a bible study led by NVM/GAIN staff Cheryl Warner and Dianne Pierre. To date the women have sold over $2500 worth of beaded jewelry! The project is providing a sense of Christian community to these women as well as a source of income to support their families.
