Just one of the many uses for strawberry shampoo
So many things are different about Haiti. Not necessarily better or worse, just different. But some are just better. Like the weather! Today it was beautiful. Sunny blue skies, high in the 80's with a gentle breeze. Another thing that is just better is that there is someone here to do our laundry! Her name is Yolande and she is the sweetest lady, I just love her already. Not just because she did all our laundry, but because every time I see her she smiles at me with a smile so big I just have to smile back. A smile that just lights up her whole face.
After she washed our clothes the other day it was so strange to see them all hanging on the garden fence for all to see. And how clean can clothes really get when you hang them up sopping wet on a dirty fence and the constant wind blows dust all over them? I guess they get “clean-er”. And I noticed that afterwards the clothes smelled different. Not the detergent-y smell you usually think of after having washing your clothes. It wasn’t a bad smell at all but I couldn’t quite place it. Then I walked by her washing and noticed she was using shampoo to wash the clothes. The smell I couldn’t place was strawberry shampoo :) I guess she was out of detergent so used shampoo. Pretty smart if you think about it. I’m sure I’ll say it again, but I appreciate Yolande and her laundry skills. Hopefully I can learn more about her story soon, but that will require my Creole to improve greatly (which I am working on). Until then I think of her as the sweet smiling laundry lady :)
