Tarp Delivery

Jay and I had a unique opportunity to deliver a roof to a very poor family in our community.  Clement and his family live about a five mile walk from campus up the side of a hill.  It is the same family that we were able to visit on Isabel’s birthday (see previous post).  While there the first time, we saw how poorly the roofs were constructed on their “homes” and Pastor Pierre committed to getting them some tarps to improve their roofs.  Jay and I held him to it and had the privilege of delivering their new roof.

Keep in mind that their new roof was actually the old sidewall of a tent.  It is a very thick and should greatly improve the straw and mud, the old suitcase, the trash and other random elements that made up their current roof.  I was able to snap three pictures of our time up there.  You can see in the background the roofs.
The new "roof" freshly cut with that machete.  Notice the old roof in the background.  I personally like the old suitcase.
These Gals were quite happy to have their picture taken.  We interrupted  their hairstyling.

Three beautiful kids with tough feet!

As Jay and I made our way down the mountain the children followed us.  One little girl held my hand and walked along barefoot with me.  As we walked, I noticed that she had tough feet.  At one point I had to verify if Jay was witness… “did you just see that?”  She had just walked over a thorn bush with her barefeet…and didn’t even flinch.

Wow.

  1. Good morning from Indianapolis...14 degrees, 10-15mph winds, frozen ground and more snow this morning after an ice storm last night. I would say "wish you were here"...but somehow that wouldn't sound right.

I was wondering..what if a guy had a bunch of 8'X 20' reclaimed 6 mil blue or white heavy plastic sheets (shrink wrap), and a continuous supply (8-12 at a time) of 15-24'x 8' reclaimed boat canvas covers...A).would that be useful material, B). How would it get in the hands of the right people?
