Moving right along...

We continue to work toward our move to Haiti in December. We haven't purchased airline tickets yet, but will go sometime the first week of December. Things are falling into place in almost miraculous ways... but there are still so many details to tend to. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we get ready for this journey while still maintaining our house, family, jobs, and relationships here.

 While living in Haiti will be fun and exciting, we have no question that it will also be hard. I anticipate homesickness, adjustment to new culture, lack of clean (and hot) water on demand, new foods, big bugs/tarantulas, boredom (compared to our crazy busy life here), and extreme heat. But, I am sure things I haven't even imagined will test us.

When people find out our plan for next year there is usually response #1 "That is so cool, I can totally see you guys doing that!" followed by response #2 "What does that look like?". Perhaps the questions we receive most often are;

1. Where will you live?
2. What are you doing with your house in Indy?
3. How will you pay for this?

So, here are a few answers for you :)

1. We aren't certain exactly what our housing situation in Haiti looks like yet, but we do know it will be more than sufficient. Especially in comparison to how most Hatians are currently living. We do know that we will live outside Port Au Prince in a village called Chambrun. It is not too far outside of the city, but due to road conditions and traffic, takes about 45 minutes to get there. NVM (www.nehemiahvisionministries.org) has a campus in Chambrun that consists of the church, a school, an outpatient medical clinic, children's home, hospital, food/supply storage facilities, cafeteria, and team dorms. Currently they are erecting a building that we will live in. We will live in a few rooms, and the others will be used as offices. We don't know much about it, but did see these pictures as it is coming together. We were told there was no kitchen or bathroom, but I keep hoping maybe at least a bathroom can somehow emerge  and it appears there is some sort of plumbing in the second picture. So here's hoping :)

2.  We really don't know at this point. Since we will only be gone one year and considering the current housing market, we don't think it is feasible to try and sell our house, plus we love where we live! We have budgeted to pay mortgage while in Haiti, but are hoping to find someone we know to rent for the year.

3. Great question! NVM is a non profit organization and we will need to raise support to pay for the year. It is a monumental task but we firmly believe that God has called us to this and with a little hard work from us, we can raise all the support we need. We are putting in at least 10% of the total from our savings and plan to raise the rest so if you are interested... click on the "donate" link at the top of the page.

That is all for now! Check back again soon for more FAQ Haiti style :)
